What is an ADU or JADU?
An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a secondary residential unit with its own kitchen and bathroom, often referred to as a granny flat or second unit. ADUs can be built on properties with existing homes or apartment buildings and can be either attached to the main structure or completely detached. They are typically more affordable than building a new home and can be rented out or used as living space for family members or caregivers.

A Junior ADU (JADU) is similar but smaller, with a maximum size of 500 square feet. JADUs must be located within the main home and have a separate exterior entrance.
